FAQs

How Does it Work?

The first 30 minutes are free so that you see if there is a connection there and whether you feel comfortable.  If you feel good and wish to continue, you’ll be scheduled for your first one hour session.  The price is U.S. $65 per hour, plus applicable taxes.  Passion for Life is a Canadian company, so only Canadians will pay the hst (harmonized sales taxes).  Clients from other countries pay no tax.

How Often Should I Book Sessions?

Most clients will want to book one or two hours per week in the beginning, depending on the urgency and how many issues you wish to discuss.  There is really no limit other than your budget.  But it is important to leave a reasonable time after each session to absorb and adopt the advice before continuing.

Can I Use Health Insurance Plans to Pay for This Service?

This service is not provided by a formal registered therapist or counsellor, so health plans or programs will not pay for it.  It is up to you to pay for all sessions upfront before they begin.  Passion for Life will give you the relevant payment options, such as email bank transfers in Canada and PayPal for other countries.

How Do We Communicate?

In the beginning, Hendrik Varju will communicate with you only in writing using a chat room set up by the Loneliness Hotline.  Hendrik feels it is important to communicate only in writing for at least the first few sessions.  This allows you to share your information and feelings in a very neutral way without “tone of voice” feedback.  As the sessions continue, you might prefer audio conferences or even video conferences.  Hendrik will consider all options with you based on your needs.

What Will I Learn About Hendrik Varju?

It’s important to know that your confidant, Hendrik, is not discussing his own life with you.  He will gladly tell you about his professional background and other publicly available information.  However, the Loneliness Hotline is meant for you to share your worries and receive help and advice to ease your burden.  The Hotline is not about becoming close friends with Hendrik.  He will feel like your friend and confidant for certain, but he is not there to tell you about his own life problems.  100% of session time is devoted to helping you.  You need to share your life burden and be heard.
